High-ranking EU delegation visits long-established company GEBHARDT Logistic Solutions GmbH in Cham: The focus is on the future of the wooden packaging industry under the forthcoming EU regulation on packaging, the so-called PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation)
A high-ranking delegation with representatives from politics and industry, including the Member of the European Parliament Christian Doleschal, European candidate Jonas Strasser, Mayor Martin Stoiber and Marcus Kirschner from the Association for Wooden Packaging, Pallets and Export Packaging (HPE), recently visited the logistics company GEBHARDT. The aim of the visit was to discuss the future of wooden packaging. Against the background of the forthcoming European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), this visit was of great importance to the Cham-based company. The implementation of this regulation would have a profound impact on the entire wooden packaging industry and especially on the production of system pallets at GEBHARDT For over 190 years, GEBHARDT has stood for quality and innovation in the production of wooden pallets and is therefore a central link in the supply chains of numerous industries. However, the new EU regulation could jeopardize the company's livelihood by heavily regulating the use of wood as a packaging material. The "high quality recycling" it requires, which stipulates that a wooden pallet must be turned back into a new wooden pallet after the recycling process, for example, is technically impossible and should therefore be reconsidered.
