GEBHARDT develops and manufactures system pallets for the new logistics center of ebm-papst
The ebm-papst Group in Mulfingen-Hollenbach is a global market leader in fans and motors. The product portfolio encompasses approximately 15,000 different solutions in the fields of motor technology, electronics and aerodynamics. ebm-papst has locations in 46 countries across the globe as well as development centers and production sites in core regions such as China, India and the USA in addition to European locations.
“Strong growth in recent years has placed significantly higher demands on our logistics operations. We have therefore dismantled our external warehouses and local logistics centers and combined them into a new logistics center,” explains Stephan Schölzel, Senior Head of Logistics for the new build. The aim was to implement a cross-docking process supported by an SAP ERP system for quick and economical global distribution of finished goods from ebm-papst. The building complex was built on time in only 15 months and now provides the high-tech business with modern and quick logistics handling. Approximately 100 trucks and 10 to 15 sea containers leave the business’s 51 docking bays bound for customers - moving a total of around 2,200 pallets every day. At 35 meters high, the fully-automated, high-bay warehouse has space for 18,600 pallets across 15 levels.
GEBHARDT Logistic Solutions GmbH has been working with ebm-papst since 2004. GEBHARDT designed a tailor-made system pallet for the new high-bay warehouse which is optimally matched to the demands of the high-bay warehouse. The combination of materials such as hardwood skids and stable joining techniques using tubular rivet connections makes the high-bay warehouse pallet particularly sturdy and durable. This helps reduce costs for remedying malfunctions and for new acquisitions. The GEBHARDT system pallet can be smoothly incorporated into ebm-papst automated conveyor system processes and increases process speed due to its improved transportation properties. Its main use as a carrying pallet allows storage of different pallet types and container sizes.
“We have been working with the process consultants from GEBHERDT for over ten years. When planning our new logistics center, we needed a specific solution for our high-bay warehouse; we first saw the GEBHARDT system pallet at the 2016 LogiMAT logistics exhibition in Stuttgart. This specially designed pallet allowed us to optimize our high-bay warehouse and logistics processes even further,” explains Ottmar Rupp, Packaging Engineer at ebm-papst.
